Her eyes looked to the ground, while his was on her. She could almost hear her heart crack, and it stung. He placed his thumb and forefinger on her chin, and pushed her face up, making her look at him. He tried to smile at her, but she refused to smile back. ''I am so sorry, I promise I will write you letters every day,'' he muttered. He rested his forehead against hers, whilst she looked up at him through her thick eyelashes. A tear dropped from her eye, and rolled slighty down her cheek, before it vanished. ''Will you promise me one thing then?'' she asked quietly, looking into his brown eyes. His smile reached his eyes, because of the sound of her voice. ''Yeah?'' he said. ''Can you please tell me that it is all going to be okay?''
His smile faded, and he embraced her with his strong arms. She bursted out in tears, and hugged him so tight, that he almost thought he would lose his air. He was going to Pearl Harbor, and she didn't like it one bit. He was leaving this day, and was going to be away for some months. Maybe years. Or maybe he was not returning. The only thought running through her mind, was finding out him being dead. She couldn't bare the thought.
Pearl Harbor needed soldiers, which could fight for the country. And he had volunteered.
He wiped her tears away with his thumbs, and kissed her forehead. ''I can't tell you that everything is going to be alright, you know that. But I can promise you that I love you very much, and not one moment will I not think about you.'' She reached up, and pressed her lips against his. He kissed her back, in a short moment of time. Then he intertwined his fingers with hers, and began to walk toward the flight. ''I can't wait to see you again, my heart is empty without you, you know?'' she said while walking side by side with him. He looked adoringly at her, with a small smile on his lips. ''I only want what's best for you. You know that, right? You're the only one that I want, and it is killing me to know that I am going to be away from you this long,'' he answered, cluttering her hand. This was one of their last moments together for a long while, and they both enjoyed it as much as they could.
1 Year later
Her heart almost skipped a beat, when she saw that there was a letter from the military in Pearl Harbor. She sat on the floor and opened it impatiently, skimming the letter. Her eyes started watering, while her mouth shut open. Then she covered her mouth with her hands, bending forward. She started screaming into her hands, tears rolling down her cheeks, and hands, and onto the floor she was sitting on. Her mother came running inside from the kitchen, reaching for the letter. The mother read the letter, and then tears sprung to her eyes too. ''Oh honey, I am so sorry,'' she said, while looking down at her daughter, who was crying her heart out. ''Mother, why is this happening to me?!'' she screamed, looking at her mother with tears running down her cheeks. He was dead in war. He died. He really died! - These were the thoughts running through her head, while she was looking blankly down on the piece of paper. Her husband was dead in war, he got shot. Her mother wrapped her arms around her tightly, whispering comforting things in her ear. And that night, she cried herself to sleep.
